Nailsworth Drinking Fountain Relocation

The Fountain is a Grade 2 listed structure (circa 1862) reputed to be the first freshwater drinking fountain outside London. The structure has been moved on two previous occasions, resulting in where it currently stands in Old Market, Nailsworth. The current site is not suitable in terms of amenity, complementary surroundings, historic context, and relationship to the stream which once formed its supply. The project will move the Fountain to a new site, opposite to where it originally stood, be enhanced through lighting and reconnected water. Importantly it will again be situated in an appropriate and prominent place.
