National Stone Centre – Net Zero Carbon Plan

The National Stone Centre was established in 1990 on over 40 acres of former quarries on the
outskirts of Wirksworth. As well as its registration as a geological SSSI, the site has a great deal
to offer to the biodiversity, re-wilding of Derbyshire as well as wider community engagement. In line with society’s expectations, it is vital that the NSC grasps its responsibilities in terms of driving carbon out of its operations. This project delivers a move away from fossil and grid energy as much as possible through:
• Supplying 80% of the power needs through solar generation
• Provision of PPE and equipment for use by volunteers.
