When Oxford City Council decommissioned the very dilapidated mini-golf course in Florence Park, this group of volunteers thought that the area could be re-purposed and designed as an outdoor space for outdoor play, wildlife and relaxation and the project began. They also wanted to respond to a very real need in their diverse community to provide an area which is free of dogs for family and community use. Working with local partners such as Flo’s – The Place in the Park, The Nature Effect CIC and Friends of Florence Park they see this project as a very important part of COVID recovery strategy with the community. The ideas have come from the community and a huge number of people stand to benefit. It will be innovative and an anti-dote to confines of home entertainment and indoor soft play areas with benefits to mental health, physical fitness and a deeper connection to the natural world.
