New Hill and Tannager SSSI Nature Reserve, Somerton – Stock Fencing

The project will take place at New Hill and Tannager s SSSI reserve in the Polden Hills. The aim is to protect the reserves rare biodiversity rich limestone grassland habitat to benefit wildlife day and night, with a focus on Polden’s Large Blue Butterfly (the UK’s rarest butterfly) and Bat species
The reserve is protected by 2km of stock-proof fencing. Over 20 years old it urgently needs replacing. The funding will pay for line clearance, removal of the existing fencing to be replaced with a new 2km fenced boundary for better grazing control.
