New LED Floodlights, Longlevens AFC Limited

This is a project to replace and upgrade existing metal halide technology floodlights to LED at Longlevens AFC.

The existing floodlights use old and less energy efficient technology. The upgrading of the floodlights to LED would significantly improve energy efficiency and the environmental footprint of the club. The project also plans to replace the existing columns with new taller ones to better concentrate light solely on to the football pitch and site them further away from the touchlines to improve the safety for users. The new LED floodlights are modern technology and are more efficient at directing light to the pitch and minimising light spill; this will positively impact the area.

The club would benefit hugely from reduced energy costs. This would enable the club to redirect cost savings into enhancing the current provisions which consists of five adult male teams, one adult female team, one veterans side and 32 youth sides. It would also enable increased use of the facility, as it would be viable to hold more games using the floodlights; this would enable better access to all teams whose use the facility. The maintenance costs for LED floodlights are less, and the club would not have to worry about constantly changing bulbs. The current technology is obsolete, and it is increasingly difficult to obtain replacement parts including bulbs. There is a risk that the current lights may not be fixable in the future.

Environmental considerations: LED Floodlights provide significant improvements on energy efficiency compared to historical technologies.

Hard to reach considerations: The club membership is open to all persons eight years old and older. The club has experienced an increase in the girls’ section over recent years, and hope that the facility can be open for more of those teams to use for their games.
