New Theatre, Cardiff

The ‘New’ is Cardiff’s oldest theatre with the first public performance taking place in December 1906. The theatre provides a diverse range of arts events including drama, ballet, contemporary dance, musicals, circus, pantomime and comedy. During it’s long and distinguished history ‘leading lights’ of stage and screen have performed at the theatre. This project aims to replace 252 seats in the upper circle. These seats are the ‘originals’ dating from 1906 and they fall well short of the standard expected by contemporary audiences being extremely uncomfortable and offering little legroom. The replacements will number only 200 but will provide more comfort, easier access, greater personal space, legroom and a higher value experience.
