North Littleton Community Orchard enhancements phase 2

North Littleton Community Orchard is a LCF funded Project to create a wildlife friendly orchard and meadows from an area of neglected arable land. The successful first stage was to purchase the land, survey the existing wildlife value and start the orchard planting. This (phase 2) Project aims to complete the orchard planting and hedgerow maintenance, ensuring appropriate guards are fitted to allow sheep grazing in future. Also the value of the site for nesting and wintering farmland birds has been recognised so winter feeding strips will be created. This site will be transformed from the neglected arable field to an area where people can walk and enjoy the orchard and meadows while ensuring quieter areas are retained to conserve the area’s wildlife.
