Northern Forest Partnership Project – Masons Wood

Mason’s Wood sits at the centre of a residential area and is well loved and visited by local people including Preston College students, residents of the local care homes and the local primary school. Unless the bridges are replaced access to some areas of the wood would need to be restricted. To improve public access to the woods we are looking to replace 5 old, unstable and narrow bridges with durable culvert bridges that will be wider and last far longer. Alongside this in partnership with Ribble Rivers Trust we will deliver a number of natural flood management improvements with support from local volunteers. The wood also suffers from flood damage after heavy rainfall so the natural flood management interventions are needed to protect the wood from ongoing flood damage and also reduce water flowing down the catchment and damaging areas further downstream.
