Nurturing Nature at Brockholes Nature Reserve

This is an exciting opportunity for habitat enhancement and protection works across the two largest lakes and three largest islands at Brockholes. The islands will be reprofiled to remove scrub and lower their AOD. The lake outfalls will be modified to enable greater flow and to install control features on one or both (price dependant). The result will be control of lake water levels, enabling draw-down for reedbed management (cutting to prevent thatching) and raising to inundate islands (killing terrestrial vegetation). Resulting habitats will have increased value for breeding birds and invertebrates, further enhanced by installation of predator exclusion.
