Nurturing Nightjars

This project at Brett’s Wood, North Norfolk focuses on protecting and encouraging nightjar at this recently acquired site, through ensuring that this red list species has the conditions it requires. Restoration of the wood will therefore require targeted measures to establish a more diverse and open woodland habitat through the creation of more woodland edges and rides throughout this former commercial woodland site to benefit the nightjar specifically. Invasive species will be managed to ensure that they are controlled. Halo thinning of existing oaks will ensure that nightjars have space to breed and feed on the site. Ride swiping will create more accessible open woodland for the existing nightjar population to inhabit and ideally expand into in the long term.
