Oakley River Restoration Partnership

As a chalk stream and Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), the river Test and its carriers are of great ecological importance. However, a stretch of the Oakley carrier, on the Mottisfont and Pittleworth estates, is currently classified as being in ‘poor ecological condition’ under the Water Framework Directive. Working in collaboration with the Environment Agency (EA), tenant farmers and the neighbouring Pittleworth estate, our project aims to restore a section of this SSSI river to a healthy, productive chalk stream habitat to enhance the site both now and for future generations.
