Old Railway Line – Biodiversity Enhancements

The Old Railway Line, is a disused section of the Midland and South Western Junction Railway which now forms a key 6km wildlife corridor between South Cerney and Cricklade. Bats, birds and badgers all utilise its wooded embankments for foraging and shelter and it also hosts a locally significant population of Glow Worms.
The Old Railway Line is also a key access route for walkers and cyclists it forms part of the National Cycle Network and links other key access routes such as the Thames Path National Trail and the Spine Road Cycle Track.
The Cotswold Lakes Trust has a long-term plan to transform and rejuvenate sections of The Old Railway Line by managing over-mature vegetation and planting new native tree and scrub species along the route, providing further ecological benefits.
