Omagh Riverside Walk and Cycle Path

The Omagh Riverside Walkway and Cycle Path is the development of a 2.3km walk and cycle path, including several bridges, along the banks of the River Strule from Omagh town centre, through Lisanelly and St Lucia lands to Strathroy and the Derry Road. This project is part of a wider strategic plan to join communities together linking them to schools, places of employment, shopping, leisure and health care. It demonstrates that the River Corridor if appropriately developed can become a thoroughfare for the town, rather than a barrier as it is at present. This will reduce the need for vehicle journeys and really connect people. The proposed walk and cycleway will open up access to areas of land which have been out of bounds for previous generations. The river corridor has not been subject to construction along its banks and so the natural resource it affords remains as a legacy and rich asset for recreational purposes.
