Operation Tree Sparrow (Cumbria)

The aim of this project is to increase the numbers and expand the range of tree sparrows and other declining arable farmland birds in Cumbria. By working with farmers we will;
· Ensure existing agri-environment schemes are delivering year round favourable conditions through provision of winter food, summer food and nesting sites.
· Look for opportunities to enter farms into Environmental Stewardship Schemes
· Co-ordinate volunteer action to survey the sites
· Monitor the usage made of arable crops through critical winter months
· Erect and monitor nest boxes
· Give land management advice to landowners
