Optimising the Performance of a Horizontal Leachate and Gas Extraction Well

Research has indicated that horizontal wells have many advantages over traditional vertical wells for control of leachate in landfills. This project will researh both leachate and gas control techniques using a horizontal well. Modifications to a combined leachate and gas extraction system used with a horizontal well will be carried out and the system will be operated to research the optimisation of collection efficiencies. In addition, data will be collected to aid in the fundamental understanding of how leachate and gas intereact and affect flow processes within a landfill
