Orrell War Memorial, Orrell War Memorial Committee, Orrell, Wigan

This is a project to install a new War Memorial in the village of Orrell, near Wigan. There used to be a very small War Memorial next to the British Legion in Orrell, however eleven years ago both were demolished in order to make way for a new housing development. With the help of a war veteran (who has since died) the Orrell War Memorial Committee has been trying to obtain a piece of land in a suitable location to build a new War Memorial for several years. A site has now been located and planning permission obtained, which is opposite the primary school. The children at the school are very keen to get involved with the project and the whole community is committed to its success. Wigan Council is leasing the site to the Committee and is supportive of the project.
