Orwell Parish Council

To acquire a five-acre site at the heart of Orwell village to protect and enhance the flora and fauna and ensure it can be enjoyed by the community in perpetuity. The site comprises two parts: The Glebe Field – ancient uncultivated chalk grassland – and The Meadow / Paddock. The intention is to make a single free nature reserve combining with the adjoining SSSI (The Clunch Pit). The Glebe Field has a rich diversity of flora supporting butterflies, bees, birds and other animals and can be accessed by the community already, whereas the Meadow would be newly opened up to the public with trees and hedgerows planted, wildlife habitat protected and created. The project would create new public access including a footpath via a new kissing gate which would have disabled access.
