Oughtonhead Common LNR, Hitchin

Aim is to strengthen the identity of, improve public access to and increase local understanding of Oughtonhead Common, a site rich in local social history and regarded as one of the best sites for wildlife in Hertfordshire. The proposed improvements to enable this are:
1. Signing of a pedestrian route from Hitchin to the site
2. Continuation of perimeter fencing where it currently does not exist
3. Signing at all entrances to identify the site
4. Interpretation boards at the 3 main entrances
5. Production of an information leaflet interpreting wildlife information and suggesting walking routes
6. Establishment of an “Easier Access” circular, riverside route for the less able.
