Owler Beck, Wakefield – Watercourse Restoration

The Owler Beck is a heavily modified watercourse with numerous rural and urban pressures, causing detrimental effects on habitat, wildlife, and water quality.
Using data collected in 2015/16, this project forms phase 2 of a restoration scheme. The project will improve habitat along the watercourse, contributing to local and national biodiversity action plans and water management aspirations.
Local volunteers will be engaged and offered training in river monitoring and practical conservation.
The project will raise awareness of issues facing the river and inspire local communities to take action, developing a sense of ownership and long term sustainability measures.
