Papas Park, London – Playground Surfacing and Equipment (006062)

Papa’s Park is a much loved community-run playground, sports pitch, cafe and hall on the Brixton/Stockwell border. In 1995, local residents pressurised Lambeth council to give the (then derelict) land for community use rather than selling it to developers. They created the playground and sports pitch, and now manage and run the space, including daily opening/locking up.

The playground is open 365 days a year and is free to all, attracting hundreds of families and young people. It is a natural community hub for people from diverse backgrounds to mix.

However, over time the equipment and soft surfacing have started to deteriorate beyond repair, and a complete renewal of the space has become necessary in order to keep the facilities open. Without this work, the playground will need to close.
