Parc Slip Biodiversity Project

Parc Slip Nature Reserve has a number of protected species, such as great crested newt, adder and lapwing as well as other wildlife that depend on the same habitats. Due to the significance of these species in a local and national context, the project will focus specifically on managing and creating habitats for these species. Such management will include the creation and management of ponds and scrapes for great crested newt, reducing the cover of conifer plantation for adder and planting a wild bird cover crop for farmland birds.

The project will also engage with academic institutes so that opportunities to undertake scientific research on the reserve can be made more readily available to students and volunteers, improving our understanding of species and habitats on the reserve. The more that is known about a species or habitat the more can be done in terms of conservation and educating others.
