Peatlands for the Future, High Peak (Kinder Plateau)

The restoration of blanket bog and upland heath habitats is the primary objective of the project. This will be achieved by re- vegetating the bare peat and re-wetting blanket bog. This will benefit several UKBAP and non- BAP species of conservation concern such as golden plover, dunlin, merlin, short- eared owl, mountain hare and common lizard.
The other main element of the project is gully blocking to reduce peat erosion and restore hydrological integrity. The final part of the project will be around raising the public awareness of the work and the threat caused by wildfire. The project will be supported by a detailed monitoring package to measure the improvements being made.
