Peatlands for the Future, Malham Tarn NNR

To produce an eco-hydrological assessment of this very complex wetland site which will guide additional grip blocking works and help with identifying protection works in the wider catchment area of Malham Tarn.
To arrest Peat cliff erosion on the edge of Tarn Moss. This erosion has arisen due to the Tarn having its water level raised in the c18th to improve the fishing. It has led to the loss of the marginal lagg vegetation exposing the peat to erosion by wave action over the last 200 years. Innovative soft engineered techinques will be used to protect the peat and help develop marginal lagg vegetation.
To complete grip blocking programme and restore the hydrology within the raised bog enabling sphagnum growth and peat formation.
