Penn Wood Biodiversity Project – Ancient Woodland

This project aims to restore Planted Ancient Woodland (PAWS) by gradual removal of conifers, through the traditional practice of horse logging. This will create the opportunity for ancient woodland species and habitats to be protected.
The PAWS restoration work is recognised as part of the local Biodiversity Action Plan. The Buckinghamshire County Council Biodiversity Action Plan prioritise PAWS restoration and recognises the importance of semi – natural ancient woodland as the ‘most valuable for habitat biodiversity’.
