Penrith Swift Group Project at The Swifts Carlisle

The project is to install two benches and two interpretation boards in The Swifts Nature Reserve.

The aim is to raise awareness of Swifts in Carlisle as they are a red listed bird and numbers in the North West are low.

The interpretation boards will draw attention to Swifts as well as House Martin’s, Swallows and Sand Martin’s. All of these migrants can be seen over the water and wild meadow area in the summer.

The seating will encourage visitors to sit and observe the wildlife, birds, wildflowers and pollinators. They will be also beneficial to less able bodied visitors who would be able to rest.
