Pest Control Fence Installation Project at Steam Mills, Steam Mills Recreation Ground Charity, Cinderford

This project will install pitch-side fencing at Steam Mills Recreation Ground to protect the community football pitch from recuring wild boar damage.

The wild boar damage has previously left the surface of the pitch unsafe and unusable for long periods. The fencing will ensure the pitch remains secure, safe for players, spectators and other recreation ground users. By safeguarding the facility, the Council and football club can improve pitch quality, increase participation in grassroots football, and strengthen community wellbeing.

The project also supports wider initiatives, such as the club’s partnership with Dad Matters, highlighting its commitment to using sport to improve lives and build a stronger community spirit. The project will enhance safety for children, spectators and families, by creating a clear boundary during matches and events. With a secure surface the football club and school can benefit from a higher quality pitch, raising standards of sport and encourage more young people to take part in physical activity.

Cinderford has been classified as one of the most deprived areas in England, so ensuring boar damage does not prevent access to free community sport facilities is vital.
