Phase 1 of Uffington Gorse Restoration

850m north-east of the village, Uffington Gorse is 9 acres of public amenity woodland encompassing 200m of the historic Wilts & Berks Canal at its western boundary.he Branch is now working with the freehold owners, The Woodland Trust, the local councils, and ecologists to ensure the woodland is sympathetically managed, the biodiversity of the site is safeguarded, and the canal, which holds water for much of the year, is restored. The next steps are to create plans for the maintenance of the woodland, restoration of the towpath, and dredging the canal. Access to the towpath is currently severely restricted due to trees growing in the towpath or fallen across it.

There is currently very limited access to the site as there are no designated car parking facilities and people park on soft, muddy verges, posing a health and safety risk. We want to make improvements to Uffington Gorse for the benefit of the local community, flora and fauna for many years and decades to come.
