Phase 2: Shrewsbury Urban Beaver Release

Following installation of fencing enclosure and boardwalk in Phase 1, Phase 2 will facilitate the active release of beavers into the Old River Bed SSSI in Shrewsbury. Their introduction, will improve the habitat quality on site where it is no longer possible to graze the site with cattle. Once re-engineering works have been carried out by the incumbent beavers, upstream and down stream habitat improvements will evolve through more natural processes linked with dam-making and rechannelling water by beaver activity, which will be surveyed. The release will engage local people with nature conservation, support our work via volunteering and attracting new members and feed into developing greater national knowledge about beaver ecology and urban-releases through collaboration with fellow Wildlife Trusts, other environmental organisations plus Natural England/Defra.
