Pig Crews Ardglass

Repair and restoration of two stone pig crews – the local name for a pig sty – standing on the seaward side of Rossglass Road South at Porthamish, about two miles from Killough. The structures, built of random grey local stone, are Scheduled Monuments. The pyramidal roof of the corbelled structure is largely intact while that of the other, which had a pitched roof structure has suffered collapse. The walls of the adjoining “courts” are variously ruinous or dilapidated.
