Pimple to Beauty Spot

The Pimple is a piece of green open space in the heart of Kingstanding. Surrounded by housing estates, it has four entrances which should welcome residents from across the community. Instead the area is blighted by anti-social behaviour. The land is scrambled by motorbikes, there is smashed glass (alcohol bottles), and piles of rubbish are frequently left by flytippers. The Pimple to Beauty Spot project will give local residents – led by young people – the equipment, support, and momentum to take ownership of the area & to make it a park to be proud of.Through the project we will install kissing gates which will prevent motorbikes scrambling on the area – making it safe. Young volunteers will be provided with safety equipment & tools to pick up the rubbish. Local residents will paint fences, & plant inviting flowers. The project will culminate in a celebration event, establishing the ‘friends of the pimple’ group – custodians, to maintain improvements & encourage positive community activities.
