Pingo Project

This project will support and restore pingos at NWT Thompson Common. Pingos are shallow pools formed 10,000 – 8,000 years ago, at the end of the last ice age and are of outstanding geomorphological interest. As they have remained largely untouched for all this time they are extremely rich in wildlife, containing a wide variety of water plants, rare beetles and dragonflies. NWT wishes to start a restoration project to safeguard the future of the plants and animals which survive there
