Places for People and Pollinators

The project will create, restore and improve habitats in the “Beacon” area of Skelmersdale (Ashurst Beacon and Beacon Country Park) and establish these areas as places for people and pollinators. Habitats will be surveyed, restored and managed and access for pedestrians improved. Interpretation will be sited in key areas and vantage points with reference to heritage, landscape and ecology. The aim is to develop Ashurst and surrounding areas of the Beacon as a “Bee Friendly Zone” where the needs of bees and all insects are considered, whilst improving the area generally for people and increasing awareness and understanding of the environment.
