Projects / Platform Canopy at Bitton Railway Station

Platform Canopy at Bitton Railway Station

Some years ago, Avon Valley Railway erected a marquee structure on the station platform, in order to provide comfort and some degree of protection for its customers and visiting members of the public (ramblers and cyclists etc.) from adverse weather. This structure is visually bulky, ugly, leaky and not very practical ; it does not have a period or heritage appearance – it is out of character and ungainly in comparison with the heritage character of the surrounding original Victorian station buildings. It is not adequately resistant to adverse weather conditions and as a result the canopy has had to be replaced on a number of occasions. The structure will be replaced with a permanent period-style metal railway canopy that will be more fitting, enhancing the heritage character of Bitton Station and improving the welfare and comfort of the Railway’s customers, staff and visiting members of the public.
