Population Support for Scottish Beaver Project

This project aims to provide an improved quarantine facility at Wildwood Trust to further the reintroduction of the beaver in Scotland through genetic reinforcement of pre-existing populations. Our project will see much-needed improvements to the present quarantine facilities at Wildwood Trust, allowing a more sustainable and effective programme of support for the beaver population in Knapdale, and others in the future. The addition of a beaver pond to our current facilities, alongside funding for vet services and beaver transport, will enable us to share our expertise in beaver conservation with RSZZ and the Scottish Wildlife Trust by providing genetic reinforcement supplementing the current population in Knapdale with 28 more beavers over the next three years, adding to the two successfully released by Wildwood to Knapdale in October. Not only will this benefit the beavers in Scotland, but will provide the opportunity for training our large team of conservation volunteers in beaver conservation.
