Portballintrae Art Installation, Viewing Area & Information Panel

To create a unique viewing, seating and information area with associated metal artwork on a prominent point of unused Council Land at the Northern Apex of the main Car Park in Portballintrae. The Artwork will be 3 metres in length and 1.5 metres in depth.

The project will use an unmanaged area of land, at the edge of the car park and will be wheelchair accessible. The project will create a viewing area with seating alongside heritage information panels in respect of the Spanish Armada Ship La Girona and a specially commissioned artwork which is a photo-realistic imagery of La Girona as it sailed past Portballintrae towards Lacada Point where it sank in 1588 with the loss of 1300 sailors, slaves and passengers.

The area will enhance the knowledge of Portballintrae maritime heritage, as the start of an educational journey for our children and act as a focal point for the many visitors from other countries, mainly from Spain, who wish to learn about these events.
