Pot House Wood Pond Creation and Access Improvement

The project at Pothouse Wood aims to improve biodiversity and public access:

A pond would be created in an existing wet area on the site. This would increase the habitat diversity of the site as there is currently no standing water on site, enabling new species to colonise the site such as amphibians and insects.

A new surfaced path would be created based upon an existing ‘desire line’ where people are currently accessing the site, causing erosion and damage to ground flora. The path would enable people to safely access a bench and a mature woodland area which is currently difficult due to the ground conditions and steep slope.

These project proposals have been developed by the Steel Valley Project in consultation with Sheffield City Council Trees and Woodlands Officers and Ecology Officers to ensure that the project maximises its outcomes and works in line with the management plan and ongoing operations on the site.
