Pothouse Wood

Pothouse wood is owned by Sheffield City Council who have worked with the Steel Valley Project to enhance the value of the site for wildlife and local people over the last 25 years. Footpath improvements were last carried out over 10 years ago on a main access route which is now in need of repair to maintain its accessibility for a range of abilities and prevent degradation. Works to maintain access to include installing ‘Welcome to’ signage, open up paths from overhanging trees, secure access point to prevent garden waste tipping, revet and surface paths to install a bench.
Woodland management, other than tree works to maintain site safety, have not been carried out for a similar length of time. Management proposals have been developed by the SVP with SCC Trees and Woodlands Officers in order to deliver woodland management to increase species diversity, control non native species and thin non-native species, and coppice and layer planted hazel.
