Powderham Marshes: Protecting Devon’s Last Breeding Lapwings

Despite habitat management, the number of breeding lapwings on our Powderham Marshes reserve has decreased by half since 2006. The use of nest cameras on the reserve has revealed that foxes and badgers are predating lapwing eggs. This project will enable the installation of a predator-exclusion fence around the area in which the lapwings nest. The fence will deter predators. It will enable the eggs to hatch and the chicks to fledge to achieve an increase in the lapwing population.
