The Exchequer Building dates from the mid 15th Century and was constructed during the Bishopric of Robert Neville whose Coat of Arms and Crest can be seen on the main façade. the function of the Exchequer Building was to administer the Bishop’s legal and financial transactions.

Both the Neville Coat of Arms with Crest and the Angel with Durham Coat of Arms has greatly deteriorated.
