Preserving Our Parish Church: Roof Repairs at St James, Castle Bytham, Lincolnshire

The project is for urgent roof repairs to the lead roof of the nave and replacement of cast iron rainwater goods for all of the church roof areas. The church underwent a major restoration by the architect C. H. Fowler between 1898 and 1900, although the lead roof does not appear to have been included. It is therefore thought that the lead roof was last replaced in the earlier Victorian restoration of 1857. Consequently the lead roof covering of the nave is nearing the end of its working life and requires regular and repeated patching up and minor repairs. The project will be the removal of the defective lead roof covering and replacement with new lead, including for any associated timber repairs. Additionally, the project will also include the replacement of the defective cast iron rainwater goods to all of church roofs and the repair and overhaul of the below ground rain water disposal system to ensure that rain water is being efficiently taken away for the building.
