Preserving rare heathland at inkpen Common

This site was once part of the old Inkpen great Common. The acid soil encourages a variety of heathland plants including gorse, heather and sheep’s sorrel. The area is lined by silver birch and it is important to keep these from encroaching into the open common land. Visitors to the common are able to see the ancient character retained and enjoy the wide diversity of the site.
