Projects / Preston Junction Greenway Project

Preston Junction Greenway Project

The project is to create a greenway that will provide a sustainable transport link from Preston to Penwortham and Bamber Bridge. The route bisects Avenham and Miller Parks and in the South forms part of the Preston Junction Local Nature Reserve (LNR), connecting these sites to the greenway will ensure that access to a major local amenity is maximised. The project will create good quality paths on shallow gradients, opening up the route to cyclists and enabling wheel chair and pushchair access for all. In order to create a fully accessible route from Leyland Road at Penwortham it is desirable to replace a missing bridge that was removed when the railway was dismantles. It is proposed to construct a new wodden bridge to span existing abutments to enable users to access the LNR and access Preston City Centre from Penwortham. The objective of the project is to provide access to all into an important part of Lancashire Ecological Heritage.
