Princethorpe Woods Habitat Restoration Project

Our aim is to improve and restore Lowland Mixed Deciduous Woodland habitat in the Princethorpe Woods, Warwickshire, to help conserve 6 species of butterfly, which are High Priority in the UKBAP (White Admiral, Wood White, White-letter Hairstreak, Grizzled Skipper, Dingy Skipper, Small Pearl-bordered Fritellary), and two species, which are regional priorities, (Dark Green Fritillary, Silver-washed Fritillary).

Funding is being requested to pay for woodland ride management (to create 112 ride-side clearings providing sunny, open areas within the wood covering 11.2 hectares); one hectare of coppicing; the creation of butterfly banks using a bulldozer and seeding with nectar plants; and project management (a p/t project officer for 44 days to manage the project, oversee the practical conservation management on site, liase with landowners, undertake site monitoring; and train and support local volunteers to undertake surveys and long-term surveying.
