Project Redshank

To contribute to the achievement of the Durham Biodiversity Action Plan (DBAP) by creating 1.50ha inundated muddy lake margins that will provide ideal habitat for breeding waders such as redshank, lapwing and little ringed plover. This habitat is restricted in area at present but has proved to support small numbers of visiting waders such as redshank. Island creation (0.20ha) will also provide predator free nesting sites for a variety of wildfowl. The project also aims to upgrade 700m public access paths to improve public enjoyment of this new wildlife resource.
