Protecting Ancient Views Wood

Views Wood is an ancient semi natural woodland on the edge of Uckfield, East Sussex. This project is seeking funding to:

· improve the biodiversity of Views Wood by eradicating cherry laurel. Cherry laurel threatens biodiversity by shading out the forest floor and outcompeting the fragile and unique woodland flora which makes ancient woodland one of the UK’s most important wildlife habitats.

· coppice 2 ha of sweet chestnut to control the spread of Phytopthera Ramorum, an infectious pathogen that is threatening trees and visitors alike.

· carry out ride side widening to benefit a number of woodland species by creating a lighter, scrubbier woodland structure favoured by certain butterflies, small mammals and songbirds.
