Protecting Cosnard’s Net-winged Beetle

Cosnard’s Net-winged Beetle is one of the rarest insects in the country, found at only 2 sites in the UK. One of these sites is the ancient woodland in the Wye Valley in Gloucestershire. For the future survival of this beetle, it is essential that these woodlands are managed appropriately. This project will involve the creation of guidelines for the conservation of this species, including clear advice on how to manage ancient woodland for the benefit of this and other saproxylic beetles. These guidelines would be informed by an extensive survey of the area, both to record any sightings of the beetles and to make a detailed assessment of their habitat.
