Protecting the willow tit

We would like to carry out work in the wet woodland at Fox Hagg to halt the spread of vegetation inimical to the willow tit and promote the willow and ground flora it needs to thrive.
Thinning the birch, sycamore and beech will create opportunities in the canopy and let in more light which will promote the growth of willow and ground flora. Scalloping woodland edges will prevent spread of encroaching tree species. Rhododendron and invasive species such as Himalayan balsam crowd out and smother native vegetation and are useless to our wildlife, so removing these will benefit all species including the willow tit. Heathland restoration will focus on removal of bracken and invasive species to promote heather and bilberry to benefit ground nesting birds.
