Pulborough Brooks and Amberley Wild brooks lowland heathland

Pulborough and Amberley Brooks currently has 17 ha of lowland heathland (UK BAP Priority Habitat) with a potential further 25 ha that can be reverted from coniferous plantation in the next five years. The area was lowland heathland 50 years ago, but was used for timber and Christmas tree harvests during the intervening years. A good heather seedbank is retained in the soil and the RSPB has successfully reverted 17ha already. The biodiversity work involves felling of confierous plantation and the ongoing management and development of the heathland.
