QE II Community Orchard

To restore the neglected woodland block at the southern end of the QE II Gardens to traditional orchard.

• Reintroduce local varieties of fruit trees of local importance and provenance
• Open an area in the park that has no public access at present with new footpaths, seating and interest
• Free fruit will be available for the community. This could be cropped and available from the museums tea rooms or people may pick their own
• Involve local schools , residents and volunteers in the planting and establishment of the orchard
• Provide interpretation materials on site
• Education: cooking and healthy eating projects, preserving & drying fruit
• Apple Project with adults Learning Disability: inc. grafting, tasting, cooking, pressing, cider making
• Create a composting and habitat area that will remove the need to take green waste from the site and make the park more sustainable
