Raisby Hill Grassland Nature Reserve – Wetland Creation & Expansion

Raisby Hill Grassland SSSI is a mixed site including a small disused quarry, a steep hillside with primary magnesian limestone grassland, a limestone spoil bank, neutral species rich grassland, fen and extensive scrub and secondary ash woodland. As a first phase of the project, Wildlife Trust volunteers will initially clear the woodland at the foot of the slope that forms the majority of the reserve. The second phase will engage a suitably experienced contractor to reprofile and extend existing wetland areas at the base of the slope. This will create the correct conditions for existing fen vegetation to spread and therefore increase the overall area of magnesian limestone fen.
